Julia Walden, appointed Director of Sheridan's Visualization Design Institute in July 2007, has worked with the institute's research teams to focus their work on rapidly emerging areas of interactive digital media.
Current research focuses on two primary areas: new "touchless and clickless" user interfaces and low energy motion analysis technologies.
One of Ms. Walden core strengths is to take groundbreaking, theoretical projects and by using applied research techniques to create prototypes or new products. She has carved out a highly respected international reputation for her papers and presentations on digital media and social networking. These include her recent paper, "The Vision for Mississauga's City Summit" at "Changing The Change", a conference on the role of design in the transition towards sustainability, in Turin, Italy last July, and "The Physics of Facebook" at "Playing the Gallery: the art of games" symposium at the University of Western Ontario in 2007.
Her peer recognition is represented by her role as presenter at "Money, New Media and The Law" workshop at the Banff New Media Institute in 2001 and again in 2004. She was also selected to take part in an exchange of technologies with Chinese companies by the National Research Council Technology for their Trade Mission to Beijing and Shanghai in 2005.
