Khal Shariff

In the late 1990s Khal was the Web Designer for Winnipeg's first "web portal," "Around Manitoba," and the Manitoba Telecom Yellow Pages. While at MTS, Khal led a project that gave the province it's first online video news, "24Hours.ca."
From 2000-2005, Khal was a Senior Developer at Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in Toronto, developing the XML-XSL Java programming for the CBC.
Khal was the technical lead for "Hockey Night in Canada Interactive Television," the first interactive multi-angle sports program on North American Television. Khal shared an English Television Award for the redesign of CBC.ca in 2002.
Project Whitecard's highlights include a 2006 Canadian New Media award for client cafesonique.com, the Banff 3D Aboriginal People's Virtual Museum Installation: "The Northern Lights Project," and Project Moonwalk, an educational simulation of the Nasa Apollo missions and beyond, due in 2009.
Khal has been a participant in the Nasa CoLab at Nasa Ames Research Center. In June 2007, he presented on opportunities in "Moon Missions" and Web 2.0," including a webcam rover concept by Bill Nye "the science guy." At the end of January 2008, Khal spoke on "Narrative in Space Exploration Simulations," at NASA's Virtual Worlds Workshop.
Currently, Project Whitecard and Khal are very happily the leads for an Immersive Learning Environment for the Canadian Space Agency, the CSA, developing an educational cutting-edge, multiplayer immersive environment on the International Space Station. They are working with partners Virtual Heroes of North Carolina.
